Araminta Campbell is one of Scotland’s leading luxury textile designers and weavers, renowned for her handwoven scarves, throws and blankets, as well as bespoke tweeds and custom tartans. Rooted in Scotland’s rich textile heritage, her work brings together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, with a deep commitment to the principles of sustainable luxury.

Araminta was commissioned by the Balmoral Estate to create a royal tartan for His Majesty King Charles III, which has since been worn by members of the Royal Family. At Marcliffe, she created a bespoke Balmoral tartan, woven into the story of our hotel and featured throughout our newly refurbished Superior Rooms and Suites.

During your stay at Marcliffe, you have the opportunity to create something entirely personal: an original tartan or tweed, designed in collaboration with Araminta.

You do not need Scottish ancestry or an existing family tartan. Every design begins with your own story, drawing inspiration from the people, places, colours, memories and moments that mean something to you. From family heritage and a much-loved landscape to a home, celebration or significant chapter in your life, these details are thoughtfully translated into a textile that is entirely your own.

The result is far more than a beautiful piece of cloth. It is the opportunity to create a new family heirloom — something with meaning and provenance that can be woven into pieces to enjoy today and passed down through generations.

DURATION - Initial consultation one hour. Please allow 3 months for the design process and up to 4 months for the weaving of cloth or 3 months for the development of garments and accessories.
